2.5. Tickets and fares

The Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB) started on 01 April 1999.
Therewith were associated extensive variations with the types of tickets and fares.
The following types of tickets and fares are valid from 01 April 2008.

Tickets are differentiated into

tickets with validity for one day
(cash ticket tariff)

and into

tickets with validity longer than one day
(commutation ticket tariff).

Tickets with validity for one day (cash ticket tariff)

Under the term - tickets with validity for one day (cash ticket tariff) - you can get the followingtickets:

Single tickets
Daily ticket
Small group ticket

1.	Single tickets and single tickets reduced

Single tickets are spend for local city transport amongst others within towns providing light rail rapid transport, thus also in Eberswalde. Daily tickets are spend for local city transport amongst others within towns providing light rail rapid transport, thus also in Eberswalde. 3.	Small group tickets

Small group tickets are spend for local city transport amongst others within towns providing light rail rapid transport, thus also in Eberswalde, in the advance sale for validation by start of journey or in the vehicle to the immediate start of journey.

The monthly tickets VBB-Umweltkarte (Umwelt means environment) are nonpersonal period tickets and transferable.

Monthly tickets VBB-Umweltkarte are issued for the calendar month, which ist stated on the ticket, token or the value coupon. They are valid from 00:00 o'clock of the last day of the previous month until 24:00 o'clock of the first day of the following month.

Monthly tickets VBB-Umweltkarte can start on any day of the month and are then valid for one "sliding" month (variable monthly ticket). They are valid to 24:00 o'clock of the day of the following month, which precedes in the number the first day of validity. By tickets with validity from 30 or 31 January ends the period of validity with expiration of the last day of the month February.

The monthly tickets VBB-Umweltkarte comprehend the entrainment of one further adult and up to three children aged 6 to 14 on Mondays until Friday between 20:00 to 03:00 o'clock, as well as full-time on Saturdays, on Sundays and on official holidays. 9:00 o'clock-tickets can start on any day of the month. They are valid to 24:00 o'clock of the day of the following month, which precedes in the number the first day of validity. 9:00 o'clock-tickets may be issued also for the calendar month, which ist stated on the ticket, token or the value coupon. They are valid from 00:00 o'clock of the last day of the previous month until 24:00 o'clock of the first day of the following month.

9:00 o'clock-tickets may be acquired as annual and subscription tickets.

4.	Monthly tickets and 7-day-tickets for apprentices and students

7-day-tickets for apprentices and students

7-day-tickets for apprentices and students sliding

Monthly tickets and 7-day-tickets for apprentices and students are personal commutation tickets. They are not transferable.

Monthly tickets for apprentices and students can start on any day of the month. They are valid to 24:00 o'clock of the day of the following month, which precedes in the number the first day of validity. By tickets with validity from 30 or 31 January ends the period of validity with expiration of the last day of the month February.

Monthly tickets for apprentices and students may be issued also for the calendar month, which ist stated on the ticket, token or the value coupon. They are valid from 00:00 o'clock of the last day of the previous month until 24:00 o'clock of the first day of the following month.

7-day-tickets for apprentices and students apply for seven consecutive calendar days. Their validity begins at the first imprinted calender day 00:00 o'clock and ends at the seventh calender day at 24:00 o'clock.

7-day-tickets for apprentices and students are only valid in the tariff areas of the country Brandenburg.

Personal commutation tickets for apprentices and students consist of a VBB store card with valid token coin or a value coupon, photo and the date of the end of validity. They are only valid, if the VBB store card is lettered with the first and the last name and the number of the VBB store card is lettered on the valid token coin or a value coupon. By subscription the contract number is to be transferred onto the valid token coin/value coupon to the VBB store card from the owner to. VBB store card for apprentices/students are to be attached generally with a photo. The VBB store card owner must let fixed his photo in one of the especially published issuing offices of the transport enterprises on the VBB store card.

Personal commutation tickets become invalid to the VBB store card indicated time. It lose furthermore their validity with expiration of the month in which the conditions, under which they were granted, are no more fulfilled.

Monthly tickets for apprentices and students and if necessary 7-day-tickets for apprentices and students receive:

a) school-age persons up to the age of 14

b) persons over the age of 15:

(1) apprentices and students of public schools, state authorized or state-approved private

general-education schools
vocational schools,
second-chance colleges,
universities, academies

with exception of the administrative academies, adult education centers and national adult education centers.

(2) persons, who visit private schools (alternative schools, complementary schools) or other educational institutions, which do not fall under (1), as far as they are relieved based on the visit of these schools and educational institutions from the duty to visit the vocational schools or as far as the visit of these schools and other private educational institutions is promotion capable after the Federal Education and Trainings Assistance Act;

(3) persons, who visit courses at adult education centers or another facilities of the further education for the additional acquisition of the CSE or secondary school graduation;

(4) persons, who are in a professional training relation in the sense of the German Vocational Training Act or in another contractual relationship according to article 19 of the German Vocational Training Act as well as persons, who are trained in an institution outside of the industrial training according to article 40 paragraph 3 of the German Vocational Training Act, article 37 paragraph 3 of the Handicrafts Code;

(5) persons, who visit a state-approved vocational preparation course;

(6) student apprentices and improvers may get this ticket if they are doing or will be doing a practical course or a voluntary service, while or following a state regulated education or a study at a university according to the legal regulations for education and study;

(7) official aspirants of the lower and middle grade of the civil service as well as student apprentices and persons, which must acquire the qualification for the accreditation by attendance of an administrative training course as official aspirants of the lower and middle grade of the civil service only, if they do not receive driving costs compensation from the administration;

(8) participants in a voluntary social or ecological year or comparable social service.

The institutions, which count to the afore mentioned training centres, determine the competent administrative posts of the federal state Berlin and the federal state Brandenburg.

Employed persons, vocational apprentices and apprentices, which refer allowance after the Social Security Code, volume III (SGB III), as well as persons, who are in a internship, do not receive monthly tickets for apprentices and students. This applies also to persons, who visit training courses, coaching courses or language schools.

The proof of the authorization accomlished by the presentation of an template after the prescribed sample. Students must submit the student ID with valid semester stamp or the valid semester card. For each semester the monthly tickets for apprentices and students is to be requested again.

For the issue of monthly tickets for apprentices and students as annual and subscription tickets apply special appointments.

5.	Mobility tickets Brandenburg

The mobility tickets Brandenburg are personal commutation tickets and not transferable. They are spent to one up to 50 per cent reduced price. The mobility tickets Brandenburg are spent exclusively as monthly tickets.

The mobility tickets Brandenburg are valid in principle for all railways and buses of the VBB in the country Brandenburg. The mobility ticket Brandenburg can be acquired depending on individual demand for different pay levels. Within the area of application the railways and buses can arbitrarily often used within a month. The mobility tickets Brandenburg are not valid for trips to Berlin.

The mobility ticket Brandenburg consists of a VBB mobility ticket store card with photo, on which the authorization is certified, and a value coupon for the respective validity period.

Requirement on the mobility tickets have recipients of

· unemployment benefit II (Arbeitslosengeld II) and allowance after the Social Security Code, volume II respectively
· benefits of the welfare including basic financial security in old age (Social Security Code, volume XII)
· benefits according to Asylum Aeeker Benefit Law
· members of needs communities

The authorization is certified on a so called VBB mobility ticket store card. The verification of the authorization takes place with the respective administration (e.g. Federal Employment Office, Consortium, Social welfare office), at which the benefit is drawn. There the VBB mobility ticket store card is spent. The institution providing benefits provides the VBB mobility ticket store card with the personal data (name, address and date of birth) and specifies the validity period. The validity period is dependent on the duration of the benefit grant, usually maximum up to six months. The first validity day is 01 September 2008. The VBB mobility ticket store card is thus limited and becomes invalid to the time up-marked on the card. If after the expiration of the validity further an benefit is drawn, the validity of the VBB mobility ticket store card must be extended by the respective administration. If no more benefit is drawn, the VBB mobility ticket store card is to be returned to the issuing office.

The VBB mobility ticket store card is only valid with a photo. The photo is then attached by the institution providing benefits on the VBB mobility ticket store card. The beneficiary self must finance the photo.

The value coupon belonging to the VBB mobility ticket store card is sold by the transportation company. Sales agency are the customer service centres of the transportation companies, in individual cases the mobility tickets are available also by the ticket vending machines or by the bus drivers. In principle the mobility ticket Brandenburg is available, where you can get the other monthly tickets.

On the value coupon the respective partitions of the tariff area as well as the temporal validity are noted. The number of the VBB mobility ticket store card must be lettered on the value coupon. Only then ist the value coupon valid.

The mobility tickets Brandenburg are issued for the calendar month, which ist stated on the value coupon. They are valid from 00:00 o'clock of the last day of the previous month until 24:00 o'clock of the first day of the following month.

With the mobility ticket Brandenburg can be entrained children under 6 years, a buggy, luggage as well as a dog free of charge. For the entrainment of a bicycle a separate single ticket bicycle is necessary. The entrainment of further persons is impossible.

The mobility tickets Brandenburg are only spent for the fare areas of the district-free cities and tariff combs of the districts. The mobility tickets Brandenburg are not offered in large-scale communities of the type I and II, thus also towns providing light rail rapid transport. In addition belongs also Eberswalde. In the common tariff of the transportation companies cooperating in the Transportation Association Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB tariff), are spent below specified annual and subscription tickets. They consist of a VBB store card and 12 valid token coins or 12 value coupons corresponding the VBB tariff.

The respective token coins or value monthly coupons are valid from 00:00 o'clock of the last day of the previous month until 24:00 o'clock of the first day of the next month.

Annual tickets are differed into transferable and personal annual tickets as well as into transferable and personal subscription tickets:

Transferable annual tickets

Transferable annual tickets are offered as VBB-Umweltkarten (Umwelt means environment). Beyond it 9:00 o'clock-tickets are offered in towns providing light rail rapid transport, thus also in Eberswalde, as transferable annual tickets. Transferable annual tickets are prepaid in an amount alternatively bar, by bank transfer, if necessary cashless on vending machines or by debit advice procedure (once only debit entry from a account in advance starting from the first working day of the month in which the validity period begins).

Personal annual tickets

Personal annual tickets are prepaid in an amount alternatively bar, by bank transfer or by debit advice procedure (once only debit entry from a account in advance starting from the first working day of the month in which the validity period begins) available in specifically named selling points of the transportation companies.
Transferable subscription tickets

Transferable subscription tickets are offered as VBB-Umweltkarten (Umwelt means environment). Beyond it 9:00 o'clock-tickets are offered in towns providing light rail rapid transport, thus also in Eberswalde, as transferable subscription tickets. They are exclusively distributed in the debit advice procedure. Their equivalent amount are debited directly in monthly partial amounts from the account (in advance starting from the first working day of the current month).
Personal subscription tickets

Personal subscription tickets (period tickets for apprentices and students) are exclusively distributed in the debit advice procedure. Their equivalent amount are debited directly in monthly partial amounts from the account (in advance starting from the first working day of the current month).

For annual and subscription tickets applies further conditions, in particular for

the application of the participation at the debit advice procedure,
receipt of the token coins or value coupons,
the transaction of the debit advice procedure (debit entries),
the extensions and changes of the contracts,
the renewal of the VBB store card,
loss of token coins or value coupons,
the notices of cancellation as well as
the fare refunding of the personal annual and subscription tickets.

Generally you drive more low-priced with annual and subscription tickets. If you conclude a subscription, you pay the fare for 10 months and can drive 12 months. With single payment you pay even only for 9,7 months and can drive 12 months.

For the last time on 01 April 2008 the Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB) accomplished a tariff adjustment.

Passengers, who are in the possession of valid tickets, can take along

children under the age of 6 and
a perambulator and
luggage

for free.

For dogs must be acquired a single ticket reduced, if the passenger is on the way with a single ticket. For free is the entrainment of a dog for period ticket owners. To it belongs monthly tickets, subscription and annual tickets and severely handicapped passes with supplementary sheet and valid token coin. Also with daily tickets or small group cards a dog can be carried for free.

Guide dogs, which lead blind or visually impaired people, are carried generally for free.

If passengers carry several dogs forward, a single ticket reduced or a daily ticket reduced is to be acquired and cancelled for the second and if necessary each further dog.

Following persons may travel for free:

severely handicapped person with severely handicapped pass with supplementary sheet and valid token coin of the pension office
escorts of severely handicapped person, if the necessity of the permanent escort emanate from the severely handicapped pass
wheel chairs and miscellaneous orthopaedic adjuvant, if the passenger have a valid ticket or severely handicapped pass and the type of the vehicle the entrainment allow

Tickets for the trolleybus can be obtained from all bus drivers (except BVG) and in the respective advance booking offices in the catchment area of the Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB).

On the other hand you may acquire tickets for all means of transportion from the trolleybus drivers (thus trolleybus, bus, tram, underground, city railway and regional and regional express trains of the Deutsche Bahn AG and the Ostdeutschen Eisenbahn GmbH) and for all destinations within the ambit of the Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB) and some defined places, lying outside of the VBB tariff area, in the Republic of Poland.
